Press Release On Congkak.
IN 2007, MIG created history in the Malaysian Film Industry when its horror film, Jangan Pandang Belakang collected RM7.5 million in Malaysia, Brunei, Singapore and the Philippines. It became the highest grossing Malaysian film in Malaysian film history. Jangan Pandang Belakang was also the only Malaysian film to be shown commercially in the international market.
This year, movie-goers will be treated to another horror movie produced by Metrowealth (MIG) – Congkak. This is the second Malaysian horror film after Jangan Pandang Belakang, required by the Malaysian Censorship Board, to carry an advisory – “Pregnant women and those with heart ailments are advised against watching this film.” Congkak is also categorized under U (13PG), in which those under the age of 13-year-old have to be accompanied by adults, to watch this film.
The advisory has to be given due to its horror contents. The suspense and thrills of Congkak are also heightened by its sound system.
The Dolby Digital Surround EX system used in Congkak is the best compared to other Malaysian films and is as good as in Hollywood-made films. Audience will get to experience it when watching Congkak in cinemas equipped with the dolby digital sound system.
Congkak was created another history for MIG and Malaysian Film Industry when it opens on April 17 In Malaysia with 65 cinemas in Malaysia, the biggest opening for a Malaysian film to date. In fact, the film has been pre-booked by film distributors in the South East Asia including Singapore, Thailand, Indonesia and the Philippines.
Congkak was produced after the extraordinary success of Jangan Pandang Belakang in the South East Asia and it was the second collaboration between talented young writer Pierre Andre and prolific Malaysian director Ahmad Idham. Congkak, the 23rd film produced by MIG is a quality production made at a cost of RM1.8 million and a 30-day shooting period.
Congkak stars some of the best actors in Malaysia including Nanu Baharudin, Riezman Khuzaimi, Erin Malek, Rusminah Sidek and M.Rajoli. It also introduces eleven-year-old Erynne Erynna in the lead role.
Congkak is expected to scare Singapore movie audience in 15th May 2008 thru 11 cinemas.
Congkak Menyeramkan Singapura.
